Using it well
Using it well
The rule that changes everything: only fill it halfway. The leaves double or triple in volume as they absorb water, and a packed ball stops the water from circulating: the tea comes out weak even though the leaves are soaked. One level teaspoon per cup is enough.
It works well for fine-leaf teas and medium-cut blends. For herbal teas with large pieces of fruit, use a large filter or let them steep loose in the teapot: the pieces of apple and hibiscus need room.
Rinse it immediately after use. Tannins build up in the mesh and end up affecting the taste of the next infusions.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Is it suitable for powdered teas such as matcha?
No. Matcha is whisked directly into the water, it is not steeped.
And for large whole leaves?
A fine oolong or a whole-leaf white tea deserves better: the ball compresses them. Let them steep loose in the teapot and strain when serving.
Can it be used for cold brewing?
Yes, and it is very practical: a half-filled ball in a carafe, one night in the refrigerator, and you have iced tea with no bitterness.
Also worth exploring: our loose teas and infusions, and the Essence gift box, with its cast iron teapot.
